Mixed Media Musings Day 4

Coffee! I love coffee.
My tribute to this sweet nectar of the Gods...
It started with a recycled cup from Starbucks, and lots of cut files from the Silhouette store.
I used Nutmeg primary elements powder and Copper mica powder from Finnabair (in spray form) to color my canvas. I think I threw on some Shabby Shutters distress paint as well
I love the steampunk feel of the project, I had a set of the pulleys (Tim Holtz) hanging around in my stash for a long time, so I used them too. LOVE IT!
I hope you enjoyed my mixed media musings this week. I will be back with another project soon. I'm not sure what yet, but we shall see what my mind can brew up.

Don't Abandon the Coral

Hi again,
I saw the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge was Abandoned Coral this week. I am loving the new distress colors every month. They play so well together too, which is fantastical.

I made a couple of cards to submit to the challenge blog which you can check out here

I started with a 12x12 card stock from Fancy Pants and cut it down to 53/4x53/4.
I used an embossing folder to get some texture and spattered some abandoned coral paint over top
I used my new hibiscus die from Memory Box and colored it with the abandoned coral marker and ink.
I added some sentiments and turned it into a birthday card for my friend who is turning 45.

This one just makes me smile.  I love the Bird Crazy stamp set from Tim Holtz. They crack me up.
Abandoned Coral made me think of flamingos. So I kept with the tropical theme and cut out some flamingos and hibiscus on my Silhouette machine.
I added a feather stamp on the birds to give them texture and colored them with distress ink and a sponge
I used the new color Fossilised Amber for the hibiscus.
The silly bird was stamped on coral card stock and enhanced/shaded with inks. I love how he's just hanging out with the trio of long legged friends. He's just being one of a kind.
(the sentiment is made with remnant rubs)
thanks for taking a look at my projects for the Challenge blog. I hope they made you smile a little...bye for now.

Mixed Media Musings Day 3

Hi again,
I'm sharing my many mixed media projects with you this week.
Here's one I made last year after my fabulous classes with Finnabair.
It's no secret that I love tropical/nautical projects so here is my canvas I created with a bunch of accumulated trinkets from my stash.
It started with a great picture found on Pinterest. http://www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/2012/12/12/seaside-blue-winter-wedding-inspiration/
Keeping with that color scheme, I built up layers of shells and flowers and die cuts (oh my).
I painted it all with white gesso to even out all the different colors, then sprayed the canvas with Primary Elements. The shimmer and shine is wonderful.
I stamped some images on clear acetate and cut those out to place in among the collage.
There really is a visual treat here. Everytime I look at it, I see something different. I hope you enjoyed my seaside canvas. I can't wait to share my next project with you (I know, I'm such a tease)

Mixed Media Musing Day 2

Hello again,
I have another mixed media project to share with you.

Years ago I did a lot of decorative painting/folk art. I made this frame for inside the front door, but I always hated the summer scene that was inside the frame.

I painted the panel with acrylic paint and added some beachy embellishments to it. I had a lot in my stash to use up.  The picture was printed on canvas (a favorite photo I had from Pinterest) I looked everywhere for the photo credit, so if it's yours, let me know, and thank you for an awesome picture!

Mixed Media Musings

Hello everyone,
I've been busy creating again. I have a few mixed media canvases to share this week.
Mixed media is a fun creative outlet that lets you use up a lot of hoarded - oops, I mean - acquired items you have in your stash.

I taught a class at Urban Scrapbook last week,  just before our National Scrapbook/10th Birthday Celebration weekend. It was a lot of fun and I hope the ladies in the class had a great time as well.
This is what we worked on...

crackle paste and texture
flowers and metal charms
painted with gesso and sprayed with white to really dull the colors on the flowers
Finnabair mica powders sprayed on for shimmer
more embellishing and finishing touches.
