Compendium of Curiosities 3 challenge #4 - Texture Paste /Subway Stencil

Hi everybody
A big shout out to the CC3 challenge crew. Thank-you all so very much for the kind comments and votes for the crew's choice. The gazebo is sitting on the counter at Urban Scrapbook for customers to enjoy.

It will be a challenge to top myself on that one,I think. On to the next  challenge - texture paste with stencils. To be honest, I don't use a lot of texture paste. I still have Dreamweavers paste from years ago. Black, white, translucent, glass beads, lightweight... ( I said I don't use it, but I didn't say I don't own any LOL)

I have this great subway stencil from Ronda Palazzari  for TCW that I wanted to use.
When we were in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this past February, the sweet man and I took the train around the city A LOT. it's fast and cheap and easy to navigate but, with any big city, there are always funny little signs you notice here and there. I figured it to be common sense not to urinate against a wall in the train station, but apparently the need to "remind" people is necessary.

Now remember, I also work in an inner city Emergency department, and the sweet man is a Paramedic,  so we found this signage to be quite hilarious.

Here's the link to check out  super creative and talented submissions for this challenge

Stencils: Subway and Arrows(TH)
Distress colors: faded jeans, festive berries, frayed burlap, antique linen
Dies: memory box, Silhouette cut file

I was playing with different papers and had some leftover watercolor paper so I did the same thing only a little smaller, the finished card is 5x7

One more scooter cut file and texture paste through both the subway and arrow stencils this time.

Hope you enjoyed my quirky little story. It's always the little things that seem to stick in your memory the longest.

I should also mention that the even numbered challenges are sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique. Check it out, it's a cool online store.

Roses for my Graduate

More Faux Tea Roses...
I made this shadow box with a bunch of paper roses to compliment my baby girl's high school graduation photo. It was taken in 2012 but it still is as precious and meaningful to me as it was 2 years ago.

The flower colors were chosen to compliment the photo. I used the tattered pinecone die and also the tattered floral movers and shapers die for the larger peach roses
The green flowers started out white, and sprayed with Heidi Swapp color shine (chartreuse)
There are lots of little details as well. Leaf punches, pearls, and a few ideology trinkets to keep your interest.
I hope you liked my project. It's funny because a lot of times I look at older items I have made and think, "oh I should have done this." But this one, for me, is perfect and that is a huge step on the journey to be less critical of myself and my art projects

June layouts for Urban Scrapbook - Dad

Hi everyone,
This month's challenge kit features Good ol Sport from Graphic 45.
I made one layout, but had a lot of leftovers, so of course, I had to make 2 pages (because I had 2 dads)

My dad served in the British army during WWII. This is a great picture of him at their base camp in North Africa. He played cricket and other sports during his prime. A great page featuring Dad.

This paper was a bit too "loud" so I toned it down with Picket Fence distress stain.

Here's the other layout featuring the "sweet man's" papa.
Great picture of John in the 1950's. So suave and handsome.
Again, I toned down the plaid paper with distress stain
I love all the "cork board" souveniers.
All the paper, linen ribbon, cork and plastic numbers etc are in this months kit. I added the die cut pocket watch, and a few ticket stubs from the boxing match (what did we ever do before Google?)

Thanks for looking today. Celebrate the men in your life. Happy Father's Day.

CC3 Challenge #3 - Faux Tea Roses

Hi everyone. Lets take a walk into my secret garden. This project got a little bigger than expected but me and 3D is a perfect storm.

The challenge this time is using the Tattered Pinecone die from Tim Holtz, to make these beautiful roses. The sponsor this time is Inspiration Emporium for the lucky random winner.

You can check out the teams' projects and entries here:
http://lindaledbetter.com/2014/05/compendium-of-curiosities-3-challenge-3.html

Everything in this project is either paper, ink or embossing powder and one big background stamp for the "ground"
The roses are made with patterned paper or coffee filters.
The "tree" is TIm Holtz' tapered fringe die

Gazebo, bike, fence and chairs are from Silhouette cut files
Bird's eye view
Hope you enjoyed a tour around my little gazebo garden. Thanks for lookin'

12 Tags of 2014 - May (It always starts with an idea)

Hello again,
I had so much fun with this month's tag.  I had an idea. Science, Medicine and Research. This tag actually coincided with National Nurses week as well.

It started with the Laboratory paper stash, and a large #12 manilla tag and it just grew from there. Tim's tutorial this month was to encourage us to dip into our coveted stash of trinkets.  I had a cadeceus laying on my desk that I had cut out on my Silhouette. I did the faux tarnished silver technique on it.

Below you can see the tarnished silver caduceus better. The bottle is clearly for art plastic

And on to the front of the project... The Compendium of Curiosities 3challenge this time is distress glitter. Glitter, like sand, gets everywhere. I don't use it very often (with good clutzy reason). The great thing about the distress glitter is it doesn't "fly" around everywhere and is easy to clean up a whole entire jar that dumped out. Not that I would know anything about that...umm yeah, anyway.

I took the rock candy clear glitter and tinted it with Juniper alcohol ink, then I tinted the left overs with pitch black. That's such a fun technique. Tim Holtz had a tutorial on it last year. Instant any color glitter you want. Sweet.

I really didn't mean to post so many pictures, but I really like how this project turned out. I am linking it to the following challenges...

Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge

Hi everybody,

Great news! Linda Ledbetter is hosting the 3rd Compendium of Curiosities challenges. I want to play along this time. She has some great sponsors and a wonderful team to showcase each biweekly challenge taken from Tim Holtz' latest book.

This time it is sponsored by Imagination Emporium. You can check out the details here...
http://lindaledbetter.com/2014/04/cc3c01.html

Paint Marbling. Love this technique. So fun and messy and you get different results every time.
It's no secret that I am obsessed with tropical and nautical stuff, so of course, I used my new Nautical Blueprints stamps on my challenge piece. Hope you like it as much as I do.

I made 2 separate marbled sheets, one "water" one "sand".

Urban Scrapbook's May Scrapbook Page

Hi readers,

Today I want to share the May scrapbook page challenge for Urban Scapbook. You can see the other pages here...
http://urbanscrapbook.blogspot.ca/2014/05/may-2014-page-challenge.html?m=1

We were given the Basic Grey "Mon Ami" collection by Kelly Purkey to work with. I find the hardest part of the challenge, is finding an existing photo to coordinate with the papers. This month's theme was to celebrate moms or that special female person in your life.

I edited a photo to a black and white vignette with a splash of color in the middle. The "urban skyline" background was perfect for the river valley backdrop in the photo. The picture was taken at my eldest daughter's high school graduation banquet in 2009.
