CC3C #7 painted industrial

Hello again,

Oh I do love this technique. I've used it over and over again. It's so verstaile and fun. I think it lends itself to home decor, so that's exactly what I made this time.

I got this great "faux leather" paper from the new Indian Summer line (WeRMemory Keepers)

The 3D Letters are from SVGcuts. I used Silhouette chipboard for the construction and then covered the sides with the embossed foil.

It needed a little embelly, so plastic cutlery covered with foil did the trick.

Here it is perched up on top of my kitchen shelf.

Getting in just under the wire here, I made this tag a couple of weeks ago, but forgot to post it. I love the sea theme this month. I was excited to finally get the dies and embossing folders. It seemed like I waited forever for them to finally come in.

Mid Summer's Night Blog Blitz - Day 4

Welcome to day 4 of my summer projects. I made this one a few weeks ago, but haven't posted it yet. I love SVGcuts.com. Mary's kits are fantastic and cut like a dream. When I saw the debut of the Seaside kit, I bought it within the first hour. I had the pieces cut and began assembling without an instruction video to go along with it. Luckily, Mary makes them pretty straight forward so I soldiered on.

Once the assembly was complete, all that was left to do was embellish (my favorite part)

Prima released these great resin pieces to coordinate with their Seashore line. I also stamped images from Graphic 45's By The Sea sets

I added some lantern die cuts to the front of the house (Spellbinders)

I made another lighthouse using Prima and FabScraps papers. It's a little more vintage looking. It's on display at Urban Scrapbook ( my awesome fun part-time job).

Mid Summer's Night Blog Blitz - Day 3

Hi, welcome to day 3

Here is a fun cut file I downloaded off the Silhouette store. It comes with the box card, sun, flip flops, coconut, front leaves and words.  I added in some more tropical leaves,hibiscus and palm tree using dies and rubber stamps. I think it turned out pretty great. I love the bright vibrant colors

The side panels were embossed and inked with distress inks (picked raspberry and mustard seed)

Paper is from Bo Bunny

Below is a picture of the collapsed card ready to send off to someone, but I think I'll keep this one hehehe

Mid Summer's night blog blitz - Day 2

I came up with this name while sitting in the back room at work at 3:30 in the morning. I work in an inner city emergency department (no I am not a nurse). It's summer and I have been working a lot of night shifts this month covering off holidays and vacant positions. I'm not complaining, I like night shifts for the most part, however the complete lack of sleep and mixed up schedule has left me with a lot of play time in my art room. 

It's my passion to create tropical and nautical projects, so I wanted to do a blog blitz, showing off my creations. I will see how many I can come up with in the next little while

Yesterday I posted my dream vintage Shasta trailer, today I have a tropical card to show you.

The main part of the card is a Silhouette cut file. I love the outline of the hibiscus. I had a vision of a tropical sunset in the backgroud (which is another cut file) everything was cut from white cardstock and 

Colored with Distress Inks (festive berries,picked raspberry and spun sugar)

The pic below shows the frosted film I covered the background with. That allowed me to go in and color the flower with Shinhan markers.

Mid Summer's Night Dream

Hello again,

I wanted to share a really fun project with you today. It's one of my favorite cut files from SVGCuts.com. Mary's kits are amazing and they cut perfectly every time.  I love making 3D items with my Silhouette machine. I usually cut the pieces out of white cardstock and add my own color with distress inks or copic markers (and rubber stamps of course.)

This vintage Shasta trailer is so cute. I want one in real life, especially if it was parked on the white sandy beaches of some exotic tropical place. A rogue traveller can only dream...

I inked all the bottom panels with Picked Raspberry and  Mustard Seed distress inks. I love how the two colors combine to create a juicy orange color. Then I stamped over top with a great funky flower patten from Indigo Blue. 

The green strip is inked with Mowed Lawn D.I. The same colors were inked on the umbrella and chairs to give a cohesive look to my "glamping" scene.

The top panels were embossed with the notebook embossing folder from Sizzix.

After i uploaded this picture, I noticed my "brake light" fell off. LOL

I made a couple of propane tanks and a front hitch for my little Shasta. I used a piece of cardboard tube and wrapped it with paper. I think they turned out pretty great.

Seaglass Lantern

Hi again,
I wanted to share this project I made for myself.  Tropical and ocean themes just makes me happy, so here is my happy 3D project...

It started with a great cutting file from SVGcuts.com  I love Mary's designs, they just cut perfectly every time.  I added/welded the palm trees to the window to keep it beachy.

I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. I often fall asleep with one finger on my iPad still trying to pin great "pinspirations" (sometimes I pin things accidentally while falling asleep hahaha)
Anyway, I saw this great "faux sea glass" technique and had to try it.
I picked up the Frost translucent paint by Martha Stewart at my local craft store, painted the charms and plastic following the technique described and sure enough, it worked!

here you can see the embellishments better. Great die cuts from a variety of companies : IO,memory box, Dee's Distinctively and my embossing folder from Spellbinders which I LOVE!

Compendium of Curiousities 3 Challenge - Vintage Tropical

Hello, it's time for a new challenge for the CC3 blog and even numbered challenges are sponsored by the Funkie Junkie boutique. http://www.thefunkiejunkie.com/Default.asp

When I saw the burlap panel challenge, truthfully, I said "oh no".

I have never worked with them before but then I thought, "well that's what it's about, challenging yourself to try new things."

As luck would have it, I managed to find a 2 panel package. They are small (like 4x8) so I combined the two to make a double project with one flowing into the other.

My first love is tropical and island feel art. I can never get enough hibiscus and palm tree images. 

The yellow background was a combination of a print 'n cut file for my Silhouette. I did a collage of the hibiscus in various groupings and sizes, cut it out and glued it to the panels with multi matte medium. Then it was just a process of building a collage of layers and textures.

I will let you in on a little secret. I used a product last week in Finnabair's classes that I absolutely fell in love with. Apparently it's been around forever (well ok, not forever, but a while now) Primary Elements? Have you used this stuff? Man it's like a double chocolate caramel frappachino with extra whip cream but no calories. (Hehehe)

All paper except for the word band and the plastic flowers. I took a cheap plastic necklace from a party store and cut it up. I painted gesso on it first so the color would stick.

I'm very happy with the way my challenge piece turned out. Burlap wasn't so bad after all LOL. It almost has a wicker or rattan feel to it.

Best week EVER!

HI again,

I haven't posted a new project in a while, but I have a good excuse. I had one of the best artsy weeks ever. Let me show you...

It started on Monday with the arrival of my prize package from Linda Ledbetter and the CC3 challenge crew. Woah! The look on my face says it all. Thank-you to Tim Holtz and Mario Rossi for the beyond generous prizes.

I couldn't believe my luck, I didn't have the two ink colors, the paper stash, or the sizzix die.

Then something even better happened...

Finnabair came to the Inked Stamper here in my hometown. I took 3 of the 4 classes she taught. Can I just say Anna is the most amazing beautiful person I've had the pleasure to meet.

I made Anna a card thanking her for an awesome 2 days

An end of a great week, aaaaand my studio is trashed with about 5 different project almost done.

July layouts for The Urban Scrapbook

Hello again,

I wanted to do a quick post featuring the July kit full of Heidi Swapp goodies at Urban Scrapbook.

I chose the "choose happy" as my base for the layout, cut the Vietnam cut file on my silhouette and started to build the layers.

Our kit this month included some washi tape, a silver Gelato and some burlap.

The lanterns are another Silhouette file "silk lanterns"

I had a ton of leftovers from the kit so I made some cards as well. Again with Silhouette cut files YAY!
